Fiorentina are set to finally announce the appointment of Stefano Pioli as their new coach, weeks after agreeing terms, for his second stint at the club.

The 59-year-old had accepted the role informally over a month ago, as reported exclusively for Football Italia by Alfredo Pedullà on June 5.

He was under contract with Al-Nassr and had to first terminate that agreement by mutual consent, something that was finalised on June 25.

The coach is expected to be in Florence on Sunday to begin pre-season preparations, with the statement coming on Saturday July 12.

Pioli forever bonded to Fiorentina by tragedy

This represents his second stint for the Viola, after sitting on the bench from 2017 to 2019.

It was a tumultuous time for the club, where they had to deal with the sudden and shocking death of captain Davide Astori.

That experience bonded him with the players and the fans, who never forgot his leadership during that period.

Pioli went on to win the Scudetto during his five years at Milan, then joined Al-Nassr in September 2024.

Fiorentina had hoped to continue under Raffaele Palladino, but at the end of the season, he surprisingly decided to walk away, despite having only recently been given a new contract one year into his tenure.
