The Portuguese tactician was officially unveiled as Man Utd’s new head coach on November 1 and travelled to England on November 11 when he was initially supposed to start working with the team.

However, work permit issues have prevented the 39-year-old and his staff from officially beginning in their new roles. Since Monday, Amorim has been touring the Red Devils’ facilities and talking to key figures at the club while he is waiting for the paperwork to be completed.

Despite not being allowed to train the team yet, which isn’t a major issue given that many senior players are currently on international duty, Amorim has already made the big call that former Erik ten Hag assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy and other remaining staff members won’t be retained by the club.

Still, the ex-Sporting CP boss is waiting to be given clearance to finally start the proper day-to-day work.

Amorim to start on Monday

According to Ben Jacobs, Amorim is set to lead his first training session on Monday, November 18, so precisely a week after his original start date.

By then, all the work permit issues for the coach are expected to be resolved. His staff will also, at last, be revealed by the club once all of their passes are sorted.

Among the former Sporting CP coaches the 39-year-old has brought with him are his right-hand men Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido – both just 29 and 28, respectively – and Emanuel Ferro as well as experienced goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital and sports scientist Paulo Barreira.

Amorim’s first game in charge of Man Utd will be against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday, November 24, before his side host Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday the following week.

Man Utd currently sit 13th in the Premier League and 15th in the Europa League standings.
