Emerging details show that Sandro Tonali recommended illegal gambling websites to his former Milan teammate Alessandro Florenzi, while Nicolo Fagioli recommended an unauthorized poker website to Nicolo Zaniolo, potentially among others.
Further details are emerging from the depositions involving Italy internationals Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Fagioli prior to their respective bans in 2023 and 2024 for their involvement in prohibited gambling activity.
Both players were found to have bet on football matches, some of which they were involved in themselves, which is prohibited for footballers across the board. Tonali was handed a 10-month ban, while Fagioli was given seven, ending their 2023-24 seasons early.
Reports on Friday confirmed that 13 players are under investigation for their alleged involvement in prohibited gambling practices. Tonali and Fagioli remain under investigation, but do not risk any further punishment given that they have already served bans.
There is no evidence to suggest that any of the other players named in the investigation bet on football.
What Tonali and Fagioli said about teammates during betting deposition

Meanwhile, documents ascertained by ANSA provide further information about the depositions involving Tonali and Fagioli prior to their bans.
Tonali told prosecutors which players he had spoken to about illegal gambling sites, and revealed that he recommended an illegal platform to his Milan teammate at the time, Alessandro Florenzi.
“I was the one who made him create an account,” Tonali said during his deposition, reported via La Gazzetta dello Sport.
He also provided further details about some of his other teammates: “Zaniolo told me that he only played blackjack, poker and casino. I mentioned I also played poker on the platform and that (Mattia) Perin, Fagioli, Pietro Marinoni and Zaniolo did it. There is also McKennie, a Juventus player, and Samuele Ricci, who have also played poker.”
Fagioli, meanwhile, revealed during his deposition that he had recommended certain sites to Nicolo Zaniolo.

“I indicated the illegal site on which to place online bets, on roulette or poker, to Zaniolo. I didn’t earn anything and he didn’t use my account,” Fagioli said.
Calciomercato.com, meanwhile, suggests that Fagioli also recommended betting sites to Atalanta’s Raoul Bellanova, and Juventus players Carlo Pinsoglio and Federico Gatti. The latter two are not under investigation.
