Who is Sebastian Szymanski? Electrifying Fenerbahce attacker on Spurs and Bayern shopping list

Fenerbahce attacker Sebastian Szymanski has become one of the most coveted players in Europe ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

Top clubs across the continent are queuing up as they attempt to negotiate a deal which would see the Poland international leave Istanbul just one season after his arrival.

The latest team to be linked with his signature are Tottenham Hotspur who, according to reports, are prepared to offer €20 million for the Fener attacking star.

However that might be only the beginning of the bidding for the 24-year-old, who is also on the radar of clubs in Italy and Germany.

They join Manchester United and Arsenal in admiring the attacker.

Bayer Leverkusen, freshly crowned Bundesliga champions, and runners-up Bayern Munich have both been credited with interest, as have Serie A sides Napoli and AC Milan.

With uncertainty over the futures of Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and Rafael Leao respectively, those links make sense.

Whatever happens, it’s unlikely Szymanski will be at Fener much longer, with it reckoned that he is on his way to bigger and better things.

Szymanski has long been marked out as one of the outstanding young talents in his homeland, making his first-team debut for boyhood club Legia Warsaw as far back as 2016 when he was only 17.

He quickly rose through the Legia ranks, winning two Ekstraklasa titles as well as a Polish cup, before embarking on a move to Dynamo Moscow in the Russian Premier League.

The winger then moved on loan to Feyenoord in the Eredivisie, winning the Dutch top flight during his one season in Rotterdam last term.

Feyenoord were unable to complete a club-record deal to make the move permanent and so Szymanski was recruited by Fener for a reported €9.75 million as a replacement for the Real Madrid-bound Arda Guler.

He took no time to adapt to his new surroundings and has hit 12 goals, adding 17 assists, in all competitions for his new club.

A left-footer, Szymanski plays in the attacking midfield position although he has also occasionally been deployed from the right side.

He earned fans affections during his Feyenoord days as a hard-working and tenacious player but he is also explosive and possessed of a silky technique.

The links with bigger clubs are no surprise given how quickly he has settled at Fener. He has also got three goals in 32 Polish caps and is expected to be a leading player alongside Robert Lewandowski at this summer’s European Championship.
