Milan striker Santiago Gimenez saw red after 21 minutes in an away game against Roma for elbowing Gianluca Mancini.

Mexico international Gimenez was sent off in the opening minutes of a Serie A game against Roma at the Olimpico on Sunday.

The Rossoneri were already 1-0 down when VAR spotted their striker elbowing Mancini in the chest.

The referee gave Gimenez his marching orders after a pitchside review.

Gimenez’s red card means his season is over as tonight’s game is the penultimate round in the 2024-25 Serie A campaign.

The striker will likely miss the first league game of the new season as he’s expected to receive a two-game ban for violent conduct.

The referee’s decision will also cause controversy in the coming days, as Milan had complained about a similar incident during the Coppa Italia Final against Bologna earlier this week.

Sam Beukema also elbowed Matteo Gabbia in the chest, but escaped any consequence, sparking Milan’s protests.
