Harry Kane was reportedly Carlo Ancelotti‘s number one target for Real Madrid last summer – but the England captain joined Bayern Munich instead.
The Real manager had wanted the talisman, then at Spurs, ahead of anyone else, including Jude Bellingham, who has been a revelation in Madrid since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund.
However, a senior figure at Real Madrid vetoed the bid for Kane last summer, because they had their eyes on a different star.
A report by Relevo claims that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez blocked Ancelotti’s request to sign Kane last summer – insisting they should wait for Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe is almost certain to sign for Real as a free agent in the summer at the expiry of his PSG contract.

Carlo Ancelotti wanted Kane to replace Karim Benzema after his exit for Saudi Arabia

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insisted that the club should wait for Kylian Mbappe
Ancelotti believed that Kane would be the right fit to replace Karim Benzema after he left for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.
Instead, they signed Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, and the young England star has had an impressive debut season in LaLiga.
He has scored 21 goals in all competitions, won both league Clasicos with late goals, his first in the win away at Barcelona earlier in the season remains a goal of the season candidate.
Meanwhile, Kane, who was linked with various clubs last year, has shattered records in the Bundesliga since moving to Bayern Munich.
Kane has now netted 42 goals in all competitions this season after making the move to Germany from Tottenham in a £100million deal.
