Pervis Estupiñán received a straight red card in Milan‘s home game against Napoli on Sunday as he denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity after a brilliant save from Mike Maignan.

Milan were reduced to ten men at minute 57 of their Serie A match against Napoli as Estupiñán received a straight red card while causing a penalty kick for the visitors.

The former Brighton defender pushed down Giovanni Di Lorenzo inside the box with the Napoli defender ready to put the ball inside an empty net after a save from Maignan.

Referee Daniele Chiffi immediately awarded a spot kick to the Partenopei, but needed a pitchside VAR review to determine the red card for the Milan defender.

The referee realised Estupiñán had made no attempt to play the ball as he just wanted to stop the goal, so the straight red card was the only possible consequence.

Milan were leading 2-0, but Kevin De Bruyne converted the spot kick, putting Napoli back in the game.
