Why new coach Allegri must sit out 2-match ban on AC Milan debut

Max Allegri is the new coach of Milan, but he will not be on the bench for his debut in the Coppa Italia due to a touchline ban, which is why he was fired by Juventus.

The tactician put pen to paper this afternoon on a two-year contract with option for a third season.

It was signed at the offices of his agent, Giovanni Branchini, along with Milan President Paolo Scaroni, director of sport Igli Tare and CEO Giorgio Furlani.

They were filmed entering and then leaving the offices, so an announcement is the only thing remaining.

Milan finished ninth in Serie A this season, which means they will be forced to begin the Coppa Italia from the preliminary rounds in August.

That would be Allegri’s debut, but he still has to sit out a two-game touchline ban in that tournament.

He was handed that ban along with a €5,000 fine after his chaotic antics in the Coppa Italia Final where Juventus beat Atalanta in May 2024.

Those events were behind his dismissal just hours later, as during the outlandish scenes, he took off his jacket, tie and some of his shirt, while also insulting director Cristiano Giuntoli.

That was the last time Allegri was a coach, because he then took a year out.

It was the latest trophy to his CV after six Serie A titles, five editions of the Coppa Italia and three Italian Super Cups.
