Why Serie A President wore Inter scarf during UCL QF against Bayern Munich

Italian media have explained why Lega Serie A President Ezio Maria Simonelli, a Milan fan, was seen wearing an Inter scarf during a Champions League game against Bayern Munich last night.

Lega Serie A President Simonelli somehow caused controversy last night after he was caught on camera wearing an Inter scarf during the Champions League quarter-final second leg between Inter and Bayern Munich at San Siro.

Angry fans have commented on the picture that went viral on social media today, but Italian media have played down the controversy, explaining that Simonelli was cold on a windy night in Milan, so he was given an Inter scarf to keep warm.

Journalist Giovanni Capuano added that wearing a scarf of an Italian side on a Champions League night against a foreign team was entirely appropriate, especially because Simonelli is a declared Milan fan.

Inter will meet Barcelona in the Champions League semifinal, with the opening tie played in Catalonia on April 30.
