Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus has become the subject of fresh speculation in light of the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres.
The Sweden international has joined the Gunners in a €63.5 million deal, which could potentially rise to €73.5m if all bonuses are attained. Gyokeres will become Mikel Arteta’s first-choice No.9.
While this lengthy saga has concluded, fresh speculation has inevitably followed. The signing of Gyokeres means that Arsenal will have three strikers on their books next term. Kai Havertz, though an attacking midfielder by trade, has primarily been used as a No.9 by Arteta.
Then, there is Gabriel Jesus, who has become almost a forgotten man at Arsenal due to his persistent injury problems. In January, the 28-year-old ruptured his ACL and has been out of action ever since.
It is still expected to be a while until Jesus is fully fit again, but this has not prevented conjecture about his future. In recent days, rumours have linked him with a move away, which has excited fans of his former club Palmeiras, who already tried to re-sign him last summer.
Will Jesus leave Arsenal?
However, according to UOL, it is highly improbable that Jesus returns to Palmeiras this summer. The Brazilian side have not made any enquiries about their former protégé as they are content with their current forward options, which include ex-Barcelona prospect Vitor Roque and promising youngster Thalys.
That said, the Brazilian outlet claims that Jesus does have a market and ‘could leave Arsenal this transfer window.’ Jesus is said to have admirers around Europe, and remaining in a top European league would be his priority – he is only 28 after all.
Despite these assertions, it is difficult to imagine that clubs are queuing up to sign Jesus considering that he is still recovering from a very serious injury. One also has to look at it from Arsenal’s perspective.
As FootballTransfers exclusively revealed in June, Mikel Arteta has no intention of sanctioning the exit of Jesus. He feels that the Brazilian has a unique skillset that no other player in the squad has, and he is keen to have him available again as soon as possible.
Indeed, we even reported that Arsenal were considering handing Jesus a one-year extension to his current contract, which expires in 2027. Therefore, a departure this summer appears to be highly unlikely.
