Liverpool have been rocked by an injury to Alexander Isak that threatens to keep the Sweden international striker for a prolonged period of time, but will Arne Slot’s side move to replace him?

Isak sustained a broken leg in a challenge from Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven as Liverpool scored a vital victory over Thomas Frank’s side prior to Christmas.

Initial fears suggested that he might have ruptured his ACL, an injury that would see him ruled out for the rest of the season, but while he faces a prolonged period on the sidelines, the damage has been more limited.

“It is going to be a long injury, a couple of months,” Slot said before his side’s Premier League clash with Wolves.

“That is a big, big disappointment for him and, as a result, also for us.”

Liverpool’s Isak transfer stance

Liverpool are not planning on signing a replacement for Isak, according to The Athletic.

The source cites Hugo Ekitike’s excellent form as having put the France international ahead of Isak in the pecking order, despite the record fee splashed out on the former Newcastle player in the summer.

With eight goals in 11 starts, Ekitike’s form means that Liverpool have no worries over the No.9 role.

It had previously been reported that the Reds were plotting a move for Brentford striker Igor Thiago in the wake of the Isak injury.

Will Liverpool make any signings in January?

Isak’s injury does not mean that Liverpool will be quiet in the transfer market. It is pointed out that the poor form of Florian Wirtz and the struggles of Mohamed Salah mean that a further move should not be discounted.

Antoine Semenyo had been touted as a potential replacement for Salah on the right wing, but with the Bournemouth star apparently destined to move to Man City in January, other options will need to be assessed.

“Liverpool’s recruitment staff will be assessing ‘market opportunities’, with several young players on their radar,” The Athletic adds.
