Prince William and his son Prince George could barely watch tonight as their beloved Aston Villa side crashed out of the Champions League.

The two Villans watched some of the game behind their hands as the home side went 2-0 down to French champions Paris St Germain. Their woe turned to joy in the second half as the English side scored three goals to take the lead on the night and looked as though they could get a result. However, the hopes of the two future kings – as well as the 40,000 fans watching at the ground and more on television were dashed as PSG held on and Aston Villa went crashing out.

At the end of the match, William was seen looking fed up after clapping the two sides off the pitch, while George looked just as saddened by the final 4-5 scoreline over the two legs.

Throughout the game the two royals got behind their team in claret and blue, with George donning a half and half scarf, and his 41-year-old dad enjoying a drink in the hospitality box. Any plans of watching the side in the Champions League semi finals finally came to an end at the full-time whistle.

Earlier in the night officials were left red-faced when the Europa League anthem was accidentally played before the quarter-final clash.

Anticipation was building inside Villa Park in what was one of the biggest games in the club’s history. But supporters could have been forgiven for thinking they were playing in a different competition.

As both sets of players lined up, everyone inside the ground was expecting to hear the classic Champions League anthem by Tony Britten. There was a huge gaffe when the wrong music started playing.

PSG players looked visibly dumbstruck during the strange moment, as Ousmane Dembele was seen making a confused face, while Vitinha was seen glancing at his team-mates. Fans were left similarly baffled on social media as they questioned what had happened to result in such a mix-up.

After PSG’s first goal Alan Shearer pointed the blame at Marcus Rashford , before the Manchester United loanee redeemed himself in stunning fashion. Villa could ill-afford to concede an early goal on Tuesday night after losing the first leg 3-1 in Paris last week.

The Midlands side had threatened early, with Rashford picking up the ball on the edge of the PSG box but a poor touch allowed PSG skipper Marquinhos to nip in and tackle him to steal the ball.
