When Florian Wirtz opened the scoring against France after eight seconds, he scored Germany’s fastest-ever goal.

Florian Wirtz made history when he scored eight seconds into Germany’s 2-0 friendly win over France on Saturday night.

Not only was it the Bayer Leverkusen prodigy’s first international goal, it was also Germany’s fastest ever.

Right from the kick-off, Toni Kroos picked out Wirtz, who took a couple of touches before unleashing a shot into the top corner.

Asked about the goal by ZDF after the game, Toni Kroos said:

“That was planned. The set-piece coaches had four months to prepare, so they had enough time to come up with something.

The record for Germany’s fastest goal was previously held by Lukas Podolski, who scored after nine seconds against Ecuador in May 2013.
