It’s been a rough season so far for VfL Wolfsburg, with Die Wölfe sitting 12th in the Bundesliga with eight points from eight games.

At the weekend, they ended a six-game winless run with a much-needed 1-0 victory over Hamburger SV, only to suffer another setback on Tuesday, losing 0-1 to Holstein Kiel in the DFB-Pokal.

The team’s struggles have raised questions about head coach Paul Simonis, but the club have not lost patience with the Dutchman yet.

“He’s our coach. We want to work through this period together with Paul,” Wolfsburg’s managing director for sport, Peter Christiansen, confirmed after Tuesday’s defeat.

Wolfsburg will look to bounce back when they face Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
