VfL Wolfsburg have announced the immediate dismissal of head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl following their heavy 4-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

The loss marked Wolfsburg’s sixth defeat in their last seven Bundesliga matches, leaving the club 12th in the table with just two games remaining this season.

Under-19 coach Daniel Bauer will step in as interim coach for the remaining matches against Hoffenheim and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

“Ralph Hasenhüttl took over during a difficult phase and managed to guide the team to stability,” said managing director for sport Peter Christiansen.

“We’re grateful for his efforts. However, recent results and developments have led us to act. This decision was made in close consultation with the Executive Committee of the Supervisory Board. We wish Ralph all the best for his future, both professionally and personally.”
