Wolves manager Vitor Pereira wants more from new signing Marshall Munetsi who was substituted five minutes after scoring his first goal for the club.

Munetsi’s energy was rewarded with a 40th minute strike that cancelled out Jack Harrison’s opener for Everton but he didn’t reappear for the second half.

Manager and player offered different reasons. Pereira claimed Munetsi felt something from an old injury but the 28-year-old Zimbabwean said: ‘no, no, it was just a tactical issue and I just felt uncomfortable so we just decided to change it.’

Pereira was happier with Wolves’ second-half performance and while praising Munetsi’s work-rate, wants it to be channeled better.

‘He fights for every ball,’ said the manager. ‘He defends, appears in the box to score, tries to press everywhere.

‘Sometimes we need to control him a little bit! We need balance in the way we attack and defend and how we press.’

Wolves showed they are capable without Matheus Cunha, serving a three-match ban for a red card at Bournemouth and possibly more with an FA charge of improper conduct pending.

Munetsi, signed from Reims for £16million, agrees it will need a group effort to compensate for the missing Brazilian.

‘It’s something we have to work on as a collective,’ he said. ‘Matheus will be proud of the guys when we get points.

‘I think we have all the quality on the pitch. Everybody has to chip in.’
