Liverpool are focused solely on their quest for Champions League football and will be eager to avoid a slip-up against Wolves at Molineux in the Premier League this week
Liverpool, locked in a fierce race for Champions League qualification, will be determined to avoid an upset when they visit Wolves at Molineux on Tuesday. The Reds, currently fifth in the table, boosted their tally to 48 points with a 5-2 victory over West Ham United on Saturday and are clear favourites against bottom-placed Wolves. However, Wolves showed some fight by defeating Aston Villa 2-0 on Friday, a result that marked just their second league win of the season and saw them take points from three of the current top four.
With 13 points, Wolves have at least avoided the ignominy of Derby County’s record-low 11-point Premier League campaign in 2007-08. While manager Rob Edwards cannot steer his side to safety, his recent record—two wins, five draws, and four losses in the last 11 matches—suggests Wolves may be more stubborn opponents than their league position implies. Offensively, Wolves have struggled, failing to score in five of their last eight games, but they have managed three clean sheets in that time and have picked up eight points from their last six home fixtures.
Liverpool’s convincing scoreline against West Ham didn’t fully reflect the balance of the match, with the Hammers matching the Reds in big chances and xG, and even edging possession at Anfield. Manager Arne Slot highlighted the importance of set pieces, as Liverpool scored their first three goals from corners and set a new Premier League record with seven consecutive goals from non-penalty set pieces. Defensively, Liverpool had kept three clean sheets prior to the West Ham match and have netted at least twice in six of their last nine games.
The Reds will aim to extend their winning run against Wolves to seven matches, though their last three victories have all been narrow 2-1 results, including the reverse fixture in December 2025. Slot’s side appear to have regained momentum with four straight wins heading into this fixture, and they have won six of their last seven games in all competitions. Liverpool’s away form has also been impressive, with just one defeat in their last 10 road matches and six wins during that stretch.

Wolves vs Liverpool Team News
Wolves’ teenager Mateus Mane is set to start again thanks to his impressive displays in attack, while Angel Gomes is likely to partner Joao Gomes in midfield following Andre’s recent injury. At the back, Toti Gomes, Santiago Bueno, and Yerson Mosquera are expected to form the defensive trio in front of goalkeeper Jose Sa.
For the visitors, Slot has suggested that Florian Wirtz won’t be fit in time for Tuesday, so Dominik Szoboszlai should continue as the number 10. Despite recent dips in form, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo are expected to keep their places in the lineup, along with striker Hugo Ekitike. Jeremie Frimpong, who returned from injury against West Ham, could start to build up his match fitness for the remainder of the season.
