Women’s World Cup qualifiers preview: Germany vs. Slovenia

Germany will start their Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign at home against Slovenia on Tuesday.

Germany host Slovenia in Dresden on Tuesday as they kickoff their 2027 Women’s World Cup qualifiers. The game will be played at the 2. Bundesliga side’s 27,000-capacity stadium, Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion. Christian Wück’s team will be in action four days later against Norway before resuming their campaign next month.

It will be the first game for Germany since they lost the two-legged Nations League final to Spain in December. The two-time winners were unable to progress from the group stage in the last World Cup staged in Australia and New Zealand.

They have qualified for each of the first nine competitions, and they will still enter the playoffs even if they finish bottom of group A4 in the qualifiers. Austria are also in the same group alongside Germany, Slovenia and Norway.

Slovenia are yet to play in a major competition, but they did win promotion to Nations League A after topping a group that consists of the Republic of Ireland, Turkey and Greece. The 2027 Women’s World Cup will be hosted in Brazil as the record winners in the men’s competition will hope to lift the trophy for the first time.

Wück made two late changes to Germany’s squad last week with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Jella Veit and Werder Bremen’s Larissa Mühlhaus called up from the U23 national team to replace the injured duo Sophia Kleinherne and Selina Cerci.
