Wrexham have been promoted to League One after securing a place in League Two’s top three.

The Red Dragons beat Forest Green 6-0 on Saturday to put themselves eight points ahead of fourth place MK Dons with two games to go.

Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have spent a lot of money to help the Welsh club rise through the divisions.

However, that is not to say that it isn’t a huge achievement, especially when you consider Salford‘s struggles.

Salford’s struggles

The Ammies were taken over by wealthy Manchester United legends Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, and Paul Scholes in 2014.

Their plan was to provide major investment that would see local club Salford climb up the English pyramid.

And, they got off to a fantastic start, achieving four promotions in five full seasons.

However, they have now been stuck in League Two since 2019, and are much closer to the bottom than the top of table this campaign.

Indeed, they are in 20th position, having lost four consecutive games and winning just 12 all season.

After narrowly missing out on the play-off places last year, and being one of the favourites to go up this time, this will go down as a huge disappointment.

Perhaps Neville and co. should ask Reynolds and McElhenney what it takes to get out of League Two.
