Since joining Hamburger SV from RB Leipzig over the summer, Yussuf Poulsen has been limited to just 50 minutes of football due to recurring injury problems.

However, the Danish veteran striker is now moving steadily towards a comeback, with a return after the international break against RB Leipzig the club he spent 12 years with looking increasingly likely.

According to Bild, the HSV captain played for half an hour in an internal test match between the first team and the U21s on Wednesday, showing commitment and eagerness to play.

“We have the hope and the conviction that Yussi will get back on track. He is being gradually built up,” HSV sporting director Claus Costa told the German tabloid.

“He helps a lot with everything happening off the pitch. In the second half of the test match, he coached from the bench and motivated the young players.”

HSV travel to Leipzig on October 18.
