Former Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee could be heading back to Serie A after a disappointing start to life at Manchester United, claim reports.

The 24-year-old shot to fame at Bologna and earned himself a transfer to Manchester United for €42.5m plus add-ons in 2024.

He had already struggled in the debut season, but the exit of Rasmus Hojlund towards Napoli has not boosted his playing time at Old Trafford either.

Zirkzee has played only 92 minutes of football for Manchester United so far this season, spread out over four games.

This is putting his place in the Netherlands squad at risk ahead of the 2026 World Cup, so the player and his agent are seeking a new destination in the January transfer window.

According to Calciomercato.com and Mail Sport, a return to Serie A is likely, even if it would have to be on loan with the Premier League side paying a large chunk of his salary.

Clubs looking for a player with his characteristics include Milan, who are not entirely satisfied with Santiago Gimenez.

Como have been mentioned, even if they have quite a few strikers in the squad including Alvaro Morata.

Juventus, Napoli and Inter already have options to call upon, so might not be ready to invest in Zirkzee, even on loan.
