Bukayo Saka has verbally agreed to continue negotiations on a new contract with Arsenal in the latest piece of good news for the Premier League leaders.
FootballTransfers exclusively reported in September that Saka is in line to receive a substantial pay increase when his new deal is signed, and that is coming close to realisation, according to a report from Sky Sport Switzerland.
A new agreement for the 24-year-old has long been earmarked as a “priority” for the Gunners’ hierarchy, who want to build their future around the England winger.
Saka is willing to advance on contract talks that both parties appear keen will secure the future of the player at the Emirates Stadium.
Sky Sport reports that he will be offered a contract until 2030 – a three-year extension on his current deal – while it also claims that he will receive a “record-breaking” pay rise.
The figure mentioned in terms of Saka’s wage is €14 million (£12.3m) per season, but FootballTransfers understands that the player seek a greater figure.
Kai Havertz receives an estimated €16.5m per year, and this discrepancy is likely to form a key part of discussions over the terms of Saka’s renewal.
Nevertheless, the latest reports coming from North London are that Arsenal are “confident” that a deal will be struck to keep their biggest star at the club.
Arteta on new Bukayo Saka contract
Speaking in late September, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said he is eager for Saka to sign a new deal but is happy for the situation to play out in time.
He said: “I would love that.
“From everything that I know, he is a player who is extremely happy, and proud to have the role that he has at the football club.
“Things will develop in a natural way, like they always do, and everyone knows how important Bukayo is for us. Hopefully we can do it.”
