Ajax vs. Eintracht Frankfurt preview: Team news and predicted lineups

Here is our preview of Thursday’s Europa League clash between Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt, including our predicted lineups.

Qualifying directly for the Europa League Round of 16, Eintracht Frankfurt prepare to take on Eredivisie leaders Ajax, after the Dutch side overcame Union Saint Gilloise in the playoff round.

Dino Toppmöller’s Frankfurt side have stumbled in the Bundesliga as of late, with successive heavy defeats against Bayern München (4-0) and Bayer Leverkusen (4-1).

Providing a much-needed break from league action, die Adler carry the aim of getting back to winning ways and take an advantage back to Frankfurt, strengthening their chances of lifting the very trophy that they did in 2022 under Oliver Glasner.

In regards to team news, Toppmöller is unavailable to call upon Igor Matanovic who has been left out of the European squad due to injury. The same can be said for Oscar Hojlund.

Winter additions Michy Batshuayi and Elye Wahi have both made the cut in the squad after the departure of starman Omar Marmoush.

As for their hosts, Ajax, they are expected to be without the services of Owen Wijndal, Youri Regeer, Christian Rasmussen and former Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim striker Wout Weghorst

Midfielder Davy Klaasen is also suspended after being shown a straight red card in last month’s playoff round. 

Braga loanee Matheus has started the last two matches in goal on Dutch soil in the league, however, the January addition has been omitted from the European squad. The experienced Remko Pasveer will return to the side in between the sticks after recovering from a back issue.
