Amorim’s new star: Ten Hag signing ‘amazing every time he plays’

Owen Hargreaves has hailed Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui as ‘amazing every time he plays.’

The Moroccan got his second star in what appears to be his new centre-back position against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday. Mazraoui again began the game on the right side of Ruben Amorim’s three-man defence in what would turn out to be a thrilling affair.

A howler from goalkeeper Nikita Haikin gave Man Utd an early lead just seconds into the game, but the Norwegian title challengers bounced back and made the game closer than many would have predicted beforehand.

Still, Man Utd ultimately ran out 3-2 victors thanks to a brace from Rasmus Hojlund. However, while the Dane got the plaudits for his performance, former Red Devils star Owen Hargreaves also wanted to share his thoughts about Amorim’s defence.

The ex-midfielder believes that there is a lot of potential among Man Utd’s defensive players and he reserved some special praise for Mazraoui.

Mazraoui ‘amazing every time he plays’

“There are so many different options to come,” Hargreaves said. “It’ll just be exciting to get [Leny] Yoro back fit, [Luke] Shaw back fit, [Noussair] Mazraoui plays amazing every time he plays, there’s a lot of potential here.”

It is the second time in as many games that Mazraoui has been lauded for his exploits. After Amorim’s debut against Ipswich, the new head coach also hailed the Moroccan.

“We don’t have too many centre-backs, so we have to adapt some players,” Amorim explained. “I thought Noussair Mazraoui did very well. He is so smart and is so important for us. He can play anywhere and that kind of player is crucial for our future.”

Given his impact, it is easy to forget that the 27-year-old was Man Utd’s cheapest signing over the summer, costing just €15 million from Bayern Munich. So far, he has easily been the best signing of Erik ten Hag’s final Man Utd transfer window.
