Defender Kieran Tierney is spending the campaign on loan at Real Sociedad.

The left-back joined Arsenal from Celtic in 2019 but lost his place in the side following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko in 2022.

He also struggled with injuries during his time in north London.

Asked whether he could play for Arsenal again, Tierney told talkSPORT: ‘In football you never know.

‘It’s a bit strange that you can come back the way [William] Saliba did. It is strange to be on loan for four years and then return to play.

‘Football is crazy, so we’ll see. I’m not talking to Arteta, he’s busy there.’

Tierney is enjoying his time at Real Sociedad, for whom he has made 21 appearances so far.

He said: ‘Honestly, this is an incredible experience, I enjoy it. It’s a shame that there is so little time left, there are a good six or seven weeks left of the season.’

The Scotland international has two years remaining on his Arsenal contract, but it remains to be seen where he will be playing next season.

As well as Zinchenko, Arsenal have several other defenders who are capable of playing at left-back, such as Jakub Kiwior, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jurrien Timber, with the latter closing in on a return from injury.

Tierney has made 124 appearances for Arsenal and has scored five goals. He won the FA Cup in 2020 and has also lifted the Community Shield twice.
