Newcastle United are looking to step up talks with Alexander Isak amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, according to reports.
The I Paper has delved into the goings-on at St James’ Park with an extensive piece on the current state of play, courtesy of reporter Mark Douglas.
Despite being considered one of the best centre-forwards in the world today, Isak has just a single goal to his name, with Newcastle so far failing to get up and running in the season. Even still, it’s thought that the 25-year-old wishes to stay at Newcastle for the foreseeable and sign a fresh deal that goes beyond 2028.

The I Paper states that: “Preliminary negotiations with Isak, Newcastle’s £100m-rated striker who is also interesting Arsenal and Chelsea, have taken place and i understands the player is keen to follow Gordon’s lead and commit beyond 2028, when his current deal expires.
“Given his growing stature in the Premier League there’s an acceptance that a bump in the terms given to him when he signed will be required – and there is now a precedent with Newcastle’s approach to Gordon.”
Isak netted 25 goals in all competitions last season, while the issues around Newcastle possibly breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) rules meant that Premier League clubs had registered an interest in Isak over the summer, in the hopes of landing a cut-price deal.
But Arsenal and Chelsea’s hopes of signing Isak appear to be diminishing, with the Sweeden international now heating up.

Gordon agrees deal
FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that Gordon had signed a long-term deal with the club after months of talks. The following week announcement was made and the player dashed the speculation of moving to Liverpool in 2025, with his contract up the year after.
Bruno Guimaraes committed to the club in a contract extension earlier this year and it’s also thought that the club also held talks with Sven Botman before he suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
“I’m very happy here, I like living here, the team is very suited to me – and I’m here to win a trophy. The short story is we need to win a trophy,” Gordon said after signing a new deal.
“Winning a trophy here would be unbelievable because the fans have waited so long. To be part of that team who finally does it is a massive goal of mine.”
