Arsenal managed to achieve in the summer exactly what they set out to do: upgrade the team.

Article continues under the video

The Gunners have improved each campaign under the tenure of Mikel Arteta and that is partly due to their shrewd activity in the transfer market under him.

In the summer of 2023, Arsenal broke their transfer record to sign Declan Rice from West Ham for €116.6 million, while Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya (loan) also arrived as the Gunners spent big after missing out on the English top flight title.

In fact, the club haven’t been shy in splashing the cash recently to try and fight the might of Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League, and with an injection of Champions League money, they spent fairly big yet again in the summer of 2024.

David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino have all arrived on permanent deals, while Raheem Sterling and goalkeeper Neto arrived on loan.

As always with such a big club, the Arsenal transfer rumour mill continues to be in full swing, with Arteta always keen to add to the talent he has already brought to the club.

Arsenal and Sterling hold talks

The England winger was unceremoniously dumped from the Blues squad before the opening game of the season against Man City a couple of weeks ago and was told to find a new club.

Man Utd has also been mentioned as a possible destination, but the Gunners are mulling over a deadline day swoop. (Ben Jacobs)

Nelson attracting attention

According to Sky Sports, there are four unnamed clubs in the race to sign Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson.

The player has fell down the pecking order at the Emirates and seems poised to leave before the end of the window. However, Arsenal are happy to keep him as a squad rotation option.

Osimhen available?

Al-Ahli have apparently turned their full attention on a deal for Ivan Toney after discussions with Victor Osimhen collapsed.

Negotiations have been ongoing with both players this week ahead of the deadline, but it now appears that Osimhen will stay at Napoli unless there’s a dramatic, last-minute bid.
