Aston Villa could still be convinced to sell Jhon Duran before the January window slams shut, according to a report.

On Monday, West Ham launched a sensational €67 million bid for the Colombian striker that was swiftly rejected by Aston Villa, who have repeatedly insisted that Duran is not for sale this month.

It was a bid that rather than encourage instead frustrated Hammers fans because they know that they could have had Duran for a significantly cheaper sum in the summer when Villa were actually prepared to sell.

In fact, the Birmingham club were keen to offload Duran who was unhappy about his lack of playing time and regarded as a ‘difficult’ character in the dressing room.

Ultimately, no club was willing to meet Villa’s valuation which did not even exceed €50 million and now, after proving a spectacular super sub for Unai Emery, he is valued at more than double that.

Villa could still sell Duran

Despite making it clear that he is not on the market this month and slapping a €100m price tag on his head, Villa could still sell Duran this month, according to the Daily Mail.

Though he is highly rated in terms of his talent – hence his many admirers, which also include PSG – his unpredictable demeanour and propensity for moments of madness mean that his relationship with Emery is easily strained.

The above-mentioned report cites his angry reaction to being substituted against Bologna and his red card against Newcastle as examples that illustrate why Villa could yet be tempted to offload Duran whose style of play is described as ‘unstructured.’

In the summer, during the initial talks over a move to West Ham, he threw up the club’s ‘Irons’ sign on an Instagram livestream, much to the dismay of Villa supporters and club bosses.

Following the acquisition of Donyell Malen, who is capable of playing as a central striker, and with potentially more reinforcements on the way, Aston Villa could yet soften their stance on Duran especially due to the fact that they may once again cut it close regarding Profit and Sustainability Rules this year just as they did in 2024.
