Bayern and Leipzig reach breakthrough in Eberl negotiations, per multiple sources

Multiple German footballing media sources are currently reporting that RB Leipzig and FC Bayern München have reached a breakthrough in negotiations to install German footballing administrator Max Eberl as Bayern’s new board-member-for-sport.

The ongoing negotiations between FC Bayern München and RB Leipzig over former RB and Gladbach functionary Max Eberl are apparently set to finally conclude. Multiple German footballing media sources – including Sky Germany and Germany’s “Sport Bild” tabloid report that Bayern have agreed to pay Leipzig approximately €3.5 million to release Eberl from his contract, enabling the 50-year-old to take up a position in the Bayern front office.

Leipzig opted to sack Eberl last September Hamid rumors that he was negotiating with Bayern to take over the board-member-for-sport position. The position in Bayern’s front office has remained vacant since former board-member-for-sport Hasan Salihamidzic was sacked on the final day of last season. Bayern have long sought Eberl for the post, but had to first reach agreement with Leipzig over compensation.

One reason talks between the two clubs appear to have dragged on for so long, according to the German tabloid at least, relates to the fact that the two sides were also re-litigating some of the fee installments Bayern were due to pay Leipzig for former FCB trainer Julian Nagelsmann. Details remain sketchy at this juncture, but it appears that Bayern managed to fold some of these installments into the new package.
