Speculation linking RB Leipzig boss Max Eberl with Bayern Munich is intensifying once again.
Following the sacking of Hasan Salihamidzic as board member for sport, Bayern Munich have been heavily linked with a move for RB Leipzig boss Max Eberl, and according to Sport Bild, he remains a target for the Bavarians.
The German publication goes as far as to say that it is only a matter of time before Eberl takes on a major role at Bayern.
Although Christoph Fruend has just been appointed sporting director by the German champions, there’s still a vacancy higher up the hierarchy that Eberl is likely to fill.
Bayern supervisory board member Uli Hoeness has long wanted to bring Eberl to the club, and reportedly remains very interested after seeing the work he has done as RB Leipzig’s managing director for sport since taking on the role in December 2022.
Getting Eberl’s approval shouldn’t be a problem, and Leipzig are willing to accept a compensation fee to let the former Gladbach boss go, having lined up Rouven Schröder as his replacement, according to Sport Bild.
Asked about the interest from the German champions ahead of Saturday’s clash between RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, Eberl told Sport Bild:
“I have a contract with RB Leipzig. But it’s not about me, it’s about the top game in the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig against Bayern Munich. We have put together a really exciting squad, started the season well and want to build on our performances against Bayern on Saturday and beat them at home”.
After his playing career ended, Eberl spent 17 years at Gladbach, most of them as sporting director. He stepped down from this role in January 2022, citing mental exhaustion as the reason for his decision.
