Benjamin Sesko to Chelsea: The state of play – Fabrizio Romano

Chelsea-linked Benjamin Sesko could leave Leipzig this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 20-year-old striker is considered as one of the most exciting youngsters in Europe and last summer moved to Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg.

He has impressed for Leipzig this term, scoring eight goals in 25 games.

This has led to reports that Chelsea will look to make a move for the player at the end of the season.

There have also been reports that Milan will try to replace Olivier Giroud with Sesko. Milan attempted to sign Sesko already when he left Salzburg to join Leipzig.

What did Romano say?

“Benjamin Sesko – he could be on the move and some big clubs are following him,” said Romano.

“Sesko has been linked with AC Milan but there’s no negotiation yet and many clubs are interested.”

Both Milan and Chelsea are in the market for a new number nine in the summer.

Giroud’s contract at Milan expires and he will turn 38 this year.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have shortlisted the likes of Victor Osimhen, Dusan Vlahovic and Ivan Toney as potential new number 9s for them.

There is reportedly a €50 million release clause in his contract.

Sesko really emerged after he joined Salzburg in 2019 from Slovenian club Domzale.

Salzburg have a great record of working with attacking players having developed the likes of Sadio Mane, Erling Haaland and Karim Adeyemi in recent times.

It’s believed that Sesko can be the next from their incredible production line to reach the very top of the game.

He has scored 10 goals for the Slovenia national team and he is expected to be a key player at Euro 2024, as his country play in their first Euros since 2000.
