Plenty to think about for Mikel Arteta

Brentford are very well set up here. Their defence has largely controlled Arsenal so far who have struggled to find that final pass.

Trossard goes close!

Zinchenko floats a fantastic ball into the penalty area and Trossard climbs above several Brentford players to get his head on the ball.

He’s had a few chances this afternoon, but again sends his header just over the cross bar.

The error that nearly cost Arsenal the lead

While Ramsdale conceded the error, it was a fantastic piece of work from Rice getting back to stop Mbuemo’s shot…

Chance for Brentford!

Norgaard finds the ball just on the edge of the penalty area and puts his right foot through the ball sending it over the cross bar.

So far the home side lead Arsenal with three goal attempts to two, having had 40 percent of possession.

A shaky start for Arsenal

The Bees have been really organised so far with Arsenal struggling to get in behind them.

Ramsdale’s earlier error seemed to throw the Gunners off their stride but they’ve steadied things and look in control in possession.

They have looked the better team on the ball and are currently building up play passing the ball around the edge of the box, but are getting pushed back further and further by Brentford.

Thomas Frank has his team really well drilled – they’re closing out the spaces here really well, blocking off Arsenal’s passing lines.

Are Arsenal wasting time?

It’s the second time the referee has had to tell the Gunners to hurry up off a corner!

The ball comes in but the Gunners can’t make good the chance, with it going out for a goal kick.

Are Arsenal trying to slow the game down?

Big mistake from Ramsdale, Rice clears off the line!!

That was a huge error from Ramsdale.

He receives the ball back inside his penalty area from Gabriel and gets caught in possession inside his own six yard box.

It’s a massive error that won’t look good for Ramsdale, with the Bees winning the ball back.

Mbuemo arriving on the edge of the box hits a hard left-footed strike at the goal but Declan Rice is there to save the day, clearing off the line.

Brentford should be 1-0 up but you can really see the pressure Ramsdale is under here.

Ghoddos and Mbuemo causing problems again

The duo have caused a few problems for the away side at the start of the match.

They’re breaking free from Arsenal’s defence pretty well here with Ghoddos finding Mbeumo on the right wing again, before the striker broke away from several Arsenal defenders.

Corner to Arsenal

Janelt concedes the corner on the far side under pressure from Saka.

It’s the England winger to whip the ball in, he takes an age to put the ball in before his cross is punched back out to him by Flekken in goal.

Trossard is free on the edge of the penalty area and Saka feeds the ball out to him, but he fires his shot way over the cross bar, with the home fans jeering the poor strike.

Brentford look good on the break

Some nice touches from Ghoddos and Mbuemo see Brentford charge up field but they can’t make good their opportunity with the referee pulling the play back for a foul.

Thomas Frank’s side are dangerous on the break and we saw that during their 3-0 defeat by Liverpool. They weren’t able to make good their opportunities during that match, but can they be more clinical tonight?

Free-kick to Arsenal

Bit of a cagey start so far but the away side have the first chance to attack.

Ajer brings down Trossard inside the Brentford half, with the Belgian and Odegaard stood over the free-kick.

It’s slightly to the left side of the penalty area, with Odegaard, back in side tonight dinking the ball in.

Martinelli can’t make anything of the cross, heading the ball out for a goal kick at the near post.

Raya returns!

He’s not in the squad tonight to play against his parent club with Ramsdale starting between the sticks.

Tonight will certainly be a great chance for Ramsdale to impress Mikel Arteta and force his way back into contention.

Kick-off!

Big atmosphere inside the GTech tonight! Arsenal are in their very bright away kit tonight, should the floodlights go out I don’t think we’ll have a problem spotting them!

We’re five minutes away from kick-off!

How big will this game be for both sides!

After City and Liverpool drew earlier Arsenal now have a chance to go top.

Meanwhile, Brentford have the opportunity to jump ahead of Chelsea with a win, and go within five points off the European places.

Always looking ahead!

Thomas Frank has walked TNT Sports through his pre-match routine, taking viewers inside his office at the GTech Community Stadium.

‘I’m just watching a bit of Luton because we play against them next Saturday,’ he said.

He also gave an injury update on some of his players before admitting he was confident with his team selection for the match.

Berntford Q&A – Will Toney stay or leave?

Hear what Mail Sport’s Kieran Gill has to say about whether Ivan Toney will stay at the GTech this season or leave for another club…

Saka and Trossard – two to watch tonight

Trossard has been in flying form for Arsenal this season, scoring six goals this season across all competitions.

And one player who has assisted him more than anyone else since his arrival at the Emirates is Bukayo Saka.

They are two players Brentford will certainly need to look out for tonight…

On returning players

Arteta also spoke about Ramsdale’s return and whether the goalkeeper now has the chance to impress the Arsenal boss.

‘He doesn’t need to [impress me],’ Arteta said. ‘I’ve got top players. We try to give them opportunities.

Speaking on what Trossard, who could play in a deeper role today, will be required to do for Arsenal tonight, Arteta said: “[He’ll need to do] What he’s been doing. He’s a big creator and a real threat around the box and he works really hard.’

Mikel Arteta’s 200th match

Today will be Mikel Arteta’s 200th appearance as Arsenal boss having joined the club back in 2019.

He has four more wins in his first 200 matches than Arsene Wenger and admitted to TNT Sports ahead of the match that he was proud of his acheivements.

Arteta said on the milestone: ‘Very proud it’s a big number in a big club and very greatful for the people who gave me this job.

On the prospect of going top of the Premier League table, he added: ‘That would be a great day. We’re really going to have to earn it because it’s a tough place and top opponents to come up against.

Teams are warming up!

It’s a chilly night in west London, but the conditions are perfect for a fast game of football.

Arsenal have a very attacking side out tonight, with Odegaard and Jesus returning, while Trossard, who scored against Burnley last time out, will drop into midfield.

And what about Ivan Toney’s future in west London?

Ivan toney has been the focus of much transfer speculation in the last two weeks.

The striker is still serving eight-month ban for gambling offences.

Yet, many clubs, including Arsenal are eyeing up a swoop for the Bees’ star during the upcoming January transfer window.

But it seems the Englishman is still ‘torn over his future’ amid interest from Chelsea, too…

Gabriel Jesus returns for Arsenal!

The Brazilian hasn’t played for Arsenal since he scored during their 2-0 Champions League victory against Sevilla at the start of November.

He hobbled off the pitch with a hamstring injury during that game and has been working to recover from that injury since.

But he played 90 minutes for Brazil during their 1-0 defeat against Argentina in midweek – after he defied Arsenal’s wishes to join up with his international side.

Brazil had risked infuriating the Gunners boss who had hoped that Jesus would not play for the Selecao, with Arsenal hoping to ease him back into football after the soft tissue injury.

But he’ll make his Arsenal return tonight, despite having admitted after failing to score for Brazil that scoring goals wasn’t his strongest suit.

‘Scoring goals is inevitable (but) it is not my strongest suit,’ he told reporters.

‘I play to score a goal, that’s why I’m in the national team. Scoring goals (again) will happen naturally.’

Brentford’s record against London rivals

Thomas Frank’s side boast a pretty impressive record against their London rivals, having gone unbeaten in 14 derbies in the Premier League since their 3-0 loss to Arsenal in September 2022.

A win today will see the Bees claim their third consecutive home victory in the Premier League, their last defeat in the league at home came against Everton in September.

Despite that they’ve dropped 11 points from winning positions during the campaign. Scoring early will be key for Brentford today but they’ll need to be solid at the back to control Arsenal’s attack.

Brentford’s starting XI

Couple of changes for the Bees too! Onyenka is back in the side with Yarmoliuk also returning.

Ghoddos will come back into the fold, with Roerslev, Collins and Jensen all omitted.

Arsenal team to play Brentford

A slight reshuffle for Arsenal following the team that beat Burnley 3-1 before the international break.

Jesus returns up top with Trossard, who scored in their last outing dropping to midfield in place of Jorginho.

Odegaard also returns in place of Kai Havertz, with Ramsdale returning between the sticks.

Team news coming up!

And Brentford are in the house!

Could Gabriel Jesus feature today?

Brazil risked infuriating the Arsenal boss earlier in the week as they opted to play Jesus during their 1-0 defeat by Argentina.

It comes as Jesus played his first game since October 24, where he suffered a soft tissue injury in Arsenal’s Champions League victory against Sevilla.

Gunners’ manager Mikel Arteta had been vocal about his willingness not to risk bringing the striker back too early, with Jesus having missed several games at the start of the season with a separate injury.

Yet he was called up to the Brazil squad, with Arsenal left sweating over his fitness.

With Jesus having played 90 minutes in midweek, could we see him make his return this afternoon for Arsenal?

Aaron Ramsdale back for Arsenal?

David Raya has usurped Aaron Ramsdale this season as Mikel Arteta’s first-choice goalkeeper.

While Ramsdale started the season as the favourite, playing in their opening four Premier League matches, he’s failed to start in a league game since the Gunners’ 1-0 win against Everton on September 17.

With Raya unavailable to play today against his parent club, Arteta confirmed Ramsdale will return to the squad to play against Brentford.

It’ll be a good chance to showcase what he can do in goal to his manager, who was asked if there was any expectation on Ramsdale ahead of Saturday afternoon’s clash.

Arteta said in his pre-match press conference: ‘My job is to try and help people in the very best possible way every day to make him better and give them the best possible chance to fulfil the potential in their career and get to the highest possible position.

‘There is no expectation with any player.’

The Gunners are in the house!

Team news is coming up in just over 20 minutes time and Arsenal have arrived at the GTech Community stadium.

Aaron Ramsdale will start today for the Gunners, with David Raya unable to play against his parent club.

How important will this game be for Ramsdale today?

Last time out…

Brentford suffered their fourth defeat of the Premier League season last time out against Liverpool.

The Bee’s were outclassed at Anfield by Jurgen Klopp’s side losing 3-0, but did trouble the Reds on the counter.

Had Thomas Frank’s side put their chances away, the outcome may have been very different with Brian Mbuemo having several chances during the game.

Brentford did look good on the break too and will want to utilise their fast attack this afternoon against Mikel Arteta’s side.

Good Afternoon!

Welcome to Mail Sport’s live coverage of Brentford’s Premier League clash against Arsenal at the GTech Community Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s side are looking to claim three points this afternoon and go top of the Premier League table after nothing could separate Liverpool and Manchester City earlier today, who played out a 1-1 draw at the Etihad.

Plenty of news from within the Arsenal squad ahead of today’s clash, with Mikel Arteta suggesting Aaron Ramsdale could make his return to the Premier League after having been usurped from the first choice goalkeeper’s spot by David Raya today.

Meanwhile, Thomas Frank’s side come into this clash off the back of a 3-0 defeat by Liverpool.

The Dane will be hoping to get a result today to help them undo that defeat with the Bees having amassed a record of four wins, four defeats and four losses so far this season.

Stay with us as we’ll have all the latest news commentary and live updates from this afternoon’s Premier League clash. It’s been a beautiful day in south west London today with the conditions perfect for a fast game of football.

Kick off is scheduled for 5.30pm.
