Brentford are in talks with Hungarian top-flight side Ferhevar over a link-up that would see the club’s best young players head overseas.

Mail Sport has learned that the Premier League side are keen to strike partnerships with a number of clubs on the continent with a view to aiding player development for footballers on their books.

Fehervar are among the clubs that Bees officials have held discussions with over setting up a connection.

Brentford are attracted by the opportunity of sending their young academy players abroad to gain valuable footballing experiences and potentially first-team action in a good league.

Fehervar, who are based in city of Székesfehérvár, play in Hungary’s top division. They are currently third in the table behind leaders Paksi FC and Ferencvaros.

Such strategic partnerships are becoming popular with teams in the Premier League as they seek ways of ensuring their players have opportunities to play.

Burnley this week confirmed a similar deal with Scottish Premier League side Dundee, a collaboration first revealed by Mail Sport in November.

Meanwhile, Brentford have agreed a deal around £2.6million to sign Iceland goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson from Swedish club Elfsborg.

The 22-year-old is due to arrive in London on Wednesday to undergo a medical. Aston Villa and Celtic were also interested in Valdimarsson.
