The 40 goals scored are the second-most on a matchday in the 21st century. Only Matchday 38 during the 2007-08 season saw Ligue 1 teams score more goals (43), but that matchday had ten games played while Matchday 31 had nine games.
Even though Matchday 31 this season saw three fewer goals than Matchday 38 in the 2007-08 season, it boasted a higher ratio, with teams scoring an average of 4.4 goals per game. This made it the most goal-filled matchday since Matchday 19 back in the 1979-1980 season, which had an average of 4.5 goals per game.

One of the highest-scoring teams on Matchday 31 was Stade Brestois, with their 5-4 win over Stade Rennais. The high-scoring win over Rennes guaranteed Brest a spot in a European competition for the 2024-25 season, marking the first time a French club has achieved this since Chateauroux in the 2004-05 season (1st round of the UEFA Cup).
Eric Roy and his team secured their European qualification following yet another high-scoring game, particularly notable during April with animpressive 25 goals scored in just four games. This month, their matches saw an average of 6.3 goals scored.
During this time, they boasted the highest goal-scoring ratio among top-flight clubs that played at least four games in the same month. Brest areone of only two teams in the 21st century to achieve such a feat in Ligue 1, scoring 12 goals and conceding 13 in the same month.

The other teams achieving this were Marseille in September 2018, with 12 goals scored and 11 conceded, and Nantes in April 2022, with 14 goals scored and 12 conceded.
Brest will now look to take their high-scoring attack to European football. Les Pirates currently occupy third place, and if they can hold onto their position, the team will play in the UEFA Champions League next season.
