Manchester City have suffered a major blow are they confirmed that Bunny Shaw will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.

The Jamaican hobbled off at the end of the first half of City’s 5-0 win over West Ham last weekend and was seen on crutches and wearing a protective boot after the game.

Following a scan earlier this week, the club have now confirmed Shaw’s injury and she won’t be available for City’s final three matches of the campaign.

Shaw is the top scorer in the WSL, netting 21 goals in 18 games for the club this season and will be a huge loss to Gareth Taylor’s side.

City are currently fighting it out with Chelsea at the top of the WSL, with Taylor’s men three points clear of the Blues, having played a game more than the reigning champions.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of City’s clash with Bristol City this weekend, Taylor said: ‘We have an issue with Bunny, she’s sustained a foot injury which will keep her out of the game for certain and potentially longer.

‘It’s such a difficult one for Bunny because she’s had an incredible season. We had a feeling it might be an issue when she came off the pitch [against West Ham] even though it was non contact.

‘She’ll be well looked after by the medical team.’

After the game against Bristol City, Taylor’s side face a crunch tie with third placed Arsenal, before finishing their campaign against Aston Villa.

Since joining the club, Shaw has scored 102 goals in 122 games, making her the club’s record goal-scorer, and without her City lack a natural number nine to replace the 27-year-old.

Lauren Hemp has played in that position previously, while Chloe Kelly could also be an option, although are both more comfortable as wide forwards.

It could see Taylor use Mary Fowler as another option along with Poppy Pritchard, who was signed in January.
