Carragher calls out two Liverpool stars who need to support Salah more

Jamie Carragher has called out two Liverpool players that he believes should be doing to help Mo Salah.

Arne Slot’s side have charged to the top of the Premier League and look in a commanding position as they sit six points clear of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand.

There is a lingering concern, though, that they have been overly reliant on the talents of Salah, who has been tipped to depart in the summer for Saudi Arabia as a free agent when his contract expires.

Salah has chipped in with an astonishing 34 goals and assists this season, meaning that he has contributed directly to 61% of goals Slot’s side have scored. This rate stands clear by a long distance as the Premier League leader in this regard.

Carragher told Sky Sports that he believes Liverpool will get away with it this season, but if the Anfield icon does sign a new deal, he says it’s unlikely to be sustainable in the long term.

“I don’t think it’s a negative this season, but if Mo Salah is to sign, which we all hope he is, more often than not he gets 20-25 goals. I think this season he could be getting 30-35.,” Carragher said.

“Actually, he if he does sign, you think of next season, then you need more from the players I’ve just highlighted. They do a lot for the team, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz. When you look at Szoboszlai, he has five goals and assists. I need more from that position.”

Carragher does not necessarily see this as a big problem but rather something that can be refined and turned into a positive.

“It’s something that excites me under Arne Slot. They can improve in some attacking areas with some of the other players that the numbers that they can get,” he added.

“Mo Salah, if he does sign, I don’t think he’ll get these kind of numbers again in the next one or two seasons – this is one of those seasons that we’ll all remember.”
