The Champions League quarter-finals are upon us and there are potentially some mouth-watering ties on the horizon.

Two English clubs remain in the competition as Arsenal and Manchester City both wait with bated breath to find out who they will face in the next round of the competition.

Of course with it being the quarter-finals teams from the same nations will no longer be held apart so that could lead to an all-Premier League match-up between the two title chasers.

That also leaves the possibility of a Madrid derby on the cards and who wouldn’t want to see those two renew hostilities for two more games this season?

There is also the intrigue that the ties including Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, PSG and Bayern Munich added.

Manchester City are well on their path to repeating last year’s title winning feat

Mail Sport used an app to simulate the quarter-final draw and here is how it played out.

 Barcelona vs Arsenal

Arsenal’s reward for squeezing past Porto on penalties would be familiar Champions Leauge knockout opponents Barcelona.

In years gone by Lionel Messi and company often put Arsene Wenger’s sides to the sword, save for The Gunners’ famous win at the Emirates Stadium thanks to goals form Robin van Persie and Andrey Arshavin.

But times have moved on, and Arsenal may fancy themselves against the Spanish opposition this time around.

Xavi’s side have wobbled often this season, and despite a comfortable 3-1 win over Napoli in the second leg, look far from formiddable.

Not that much can be read into it, but Mikel Arteta’s side also ran out 5-3 winners in a pre-season friendly back in July, that could give them some confidence.

 Manchester City vs Real Madrid

In the simulation the titanic clash that everyone will be hoping for fell upon us.

Last season’s Champions League final will live in the memories of both sets of fanbases for very different reasons.

It was a tight first-leg between the two sides at the Bernabeu, as it finished 1-1 thanks to goals from Vinicius Jnr and Kevin de Bruyne.

The second-leg was less of a contest as Pep Guardiola’s side routed their visitors 4-0 on their way to the club’s first ever Champions League title.

There are so many storylines should this tie arise in today’s draw, could it be revenge for Madrid or will City cement their place as Europe’s elite team.

Atletico Madrid vs Bayern Munich

Plenty of intrigue to be found should these two teams be drawn against each other in the quarter-finals.

Harry Kane continues his crusade to win silverware for the first time in his career with a coach who has already shown he knows how to win it.

Taking on a streetwise Atletico Madrid side led by Diego Simeone, who despite all his success is still waiting for that elusive Champions League title.

Borussia Dortmund vs PSG

Borussia Dortmund and PSG have already met in the group-stage of this year’s competition

Group-stage opponents are reunited in this tie, as Borussia Dortmund are set on a collision course with PSG.

The two sides met on the opening day of the comepition at the Parc de Princes where goals from Kylian Mbappe and Achraf Hakimi saw the French side win 2-0.

In the return fixture on hte last day of the group stage, Karim Adeyemi opened the scoring but Warren Zaire-Emery’s equaliser was enough to see both teams through what was a tense group F.

Both sides will already have a clear idea of what danger the opposition presents should they face each other.
