Chelsea medical scheduled as Romano confirms SHOCK Neymar link-up

Chelsea attacker Deivid Washington is set to undergo a medical ahead of his return to Santos, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Blues supporters would be forgiven to have forgotten about the Brazilian youngster, who has not been seen in a Chelsea shirt in over a year. Washington has to date made only three senior appearances, with his last outing coming in an FA Cup clash with Preston in January 2024.

The 19-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge in summer 2023 as a highly-rated up-and-coming striker. Chelsea had paid Brazilian giants Santos a sizeable €16 million to secure Washington’s signature.

However, his impact in West London has been negligible, to put it mildly. Washington has not featured at all under Enzo Maresca and has exclusively played for Chelsea’s reserves so far this term.

In recent weeks, reports of a potential return to Santos emerged and, after some recent radio silence, it seems that this transfer will at last be finalised, with the Serie A winter window still open until February 28.

Washington set for Santos medical

According to Fabrizio Romano, Washington will undergo his Santos medical ‘in the coming days’ and then link up with Brazilian megastar Neymar at his boyhood club.

The 19-year-old’s return to Santos will only be a loan and has been in the works since last month. Indeed, Romano reports that Chelsea made sure to keep one of their limited international loan spots open to allow Washington to leave the club in search of senior minutes.

Washington has been in action for Brazil’s U20s at the South American Championship in recent weeks, scoring three goals in seven games. At Santos, the teenager will provide a welcome injection of youth to their frontline, which consists primarily of veterans.

He will play alongside the aforementioned Neymar, who notched his first goal and assist back in a Santos shirt against fourth-tier Agua Santa on Sunday night.
