RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo is drawn towards a move to England according to German transfer insider Christian Falk – but Chelsea have competition.

Olmo has emerged as a player of interest for the Blues, who want to take some of the creative burden off Cole Palmer at Stamford Bridge.

Former City man Palmer has 16 goals and nine assists in 26 Premier League games since his £40 million switch last summer, but Christopher Nkunku has been injured, Raheem Sterling has underwhelmed, and the less said about Mykhailo Mudryk the better.

Olmo, a La Masia youth product who took the less travelled route to Europe’s five major leagues via Dinamo Zagreb, is now reportedly keen to start down the well-trodden path between Germany and England.

But much as Chelsea want him, the Spaniard is keeping his options open.

Man City ‘the hottest lead’

“Olmo is currently looking at England,” Falk writes in his CaughtOffside column. “His release clause wouldn’t be a hurdle for the rich Premier League clubs. The hottest lead at the moment leads to Manchester City. Olmo is on the list at the Sheikh Club.

“The super technician would fit in with Pep Guardiola’s (53) team and football… but City has competition: Tottenham also has their eye on Olmo, as do Manchester United and Chelsea. However, both clubs would probably not be a good choice at the moment due to their sporting imbalance.”

Olmo is valued at €29.5m by FootballTransfers’ in-house algorithm – €0.5m than Leipzig paid Dinamo for his services in January 2020, but he has an ETV for €43.8m, which is more in line with the midfielder’s reported €60m release clause.

Whilst Leipzig would miss Olmo, they have significant creative attacking talent in Xavi Simons, who has been vocal about how happy he is in Saxony following his loan arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.
