Chelsea’s key advantage in wonderkid battle with Arsenal and Man Utd

A host of Premier League clubs are interested in Mario Dorgeles, according to a report.

The 19-year-old midfielder is showing plenty of promise at FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark. Though not yet a guaranteed starter, the Ivorian is highly rated and has begun attracting the attention of several Premier League heavyweights.

A central midfielder by trade, Dorgeles has so far made 23 appearances this term, scoring one goal. According to The Standard, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle are hot on his trail, while Dan Ashworth is said to be an admirer of him as well. Ashworth, of course, is expected to become Man Utd’s new sporting director.

Brighton and several clubs from the continent are also credited with an interest in Dorgeles, who is expected to be the next Nordsjaelland prospect to get a big move after Ibrahim Osman sealed a summer switch to the Seagulls last month.

Chelsea’s advantage?

Intriguingly, Chelsea may hold an unexpected advantage in the race to sign Dorgeles. That’s because Blues legend Michael Essien is an assistant at Nordsjaelland, and he will surely put in a good word for his former employers.

According to the above-mentioned report, Dorgeles will leave the Danish side in the summer, though it is not yet clear whether he will follow Osman to the Premier League or whether a different destination beckons.

Nordsjaelland, due to their connection with the Right to Dream academy, have made a name for themselves as one of Europe’s best producers of talent, with West Ham star Mohammed Kudus also previously featuring for the Farum-based side. The Ghanaian has since gone on to become one of the Premier League’s most exciting players.

As for Dorgeles, he is still very much at the beginning of his career, but he is certainly one to keep an eye on. Last year, Essien named the youngster as one of the biggest talents at Nordsjaelland.
