Manchester United are interested in Geovany Quenda, but the youngster has a €100 million release clause, according to Portuguese media.

The Sporting CP winger has been a revelation this season. Trusted by coach Ruben Amorim, Quenda has been virtually ever-present in the side of the Portuguese champions despite being just 17 years of age.

While his offensive output can still improve – he has managed just one goal and one assist in 13 appearances – his undeniable talent has already been recognised by national team boss Roberto Martinez, who included him in his squad during the September international break, though he has yet to make his debut.

During that national team camp, Cristiano Ronaldo, himself a product of Sporting’s youth system, described Quenda as his ‘little brother’ to calm the star-struck teenager’s nerves, and CR7 is not the only one who has been impressed with the attacker.

Man Utd eye Quenda

According to Portuguese media, Man Utd are interested in repeating their Ronaldo trick with Quenda, plucking the starlet straight from Sporting just as they did with their club legend 19 years ago.

However, as A Bola points out, a major hurdle is the fact that the teenager has a massive release clause in his contract that is likely to make any transfer in 2025 impossible unless Sporting agree to sit down and negotiate.

Quenda is thought to have a €100 million price tag protecting him. The 17-year-old signed a new contract in September that saw the value of his exit clause get bumped from €45m up to €100m, meaning that a move is unlikely as things stand.

Man Utd are in the market for a right-winger, with Antony having failed to live up to the hype and now having been made available for a January transfer. A move for Quenda, however, would be a pricey surprise.
