Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth is determined to bring Jarrad Branthwaite to the club next year, as per HITC.
The Red Devils were keen on landing the England international last summer and they made three transfer bids on the table.
However, none of them were close to the £80 million asking price and the Toffees were happy to keep hold of their asset.
This has not ended speculation over his future and it is claimed that Ashworth has not given up on bringing Branthwaite to Old Trafford.
United spent big on Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt to bolster their central defence, but they are eyeing another marquee signing.
Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are expected to leave next summer and United could renew their pursuit of Branthwaite.
Branthwaite agreed terms over a £150,000 per week deal earlier this year and a transfer could be fairly easy if a fee is agreed.
Everton are unlikely to provide a discount on their price.
