David Moyes hailed West Ham’s journey from relegation candidates to European contenders after his side progressed to a third quarter-final in three years.
Goals from Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen, Aaron Cresswell and a brace from Mohammed Kudus saw the Hammers overturn a 1-0 deficit to overcome German side SC Freiburg in the second leg of their last 16 tie.
West Ham were 17th in the Premier League when Moyes took over in December 2019 but he will now lead the club into a third successive quarter-final in Europe. The Hammers reached the semi-final of this competition in 2022 before going on to win the Europa Conference League last season.
‘For us to be in another quarter-final is a brilliant achievement,’ Moyes said.
‘From where we’ve come from, a team that was avoiding relegation to actually make Europe, to then do it a second year and win a trophy.

‘The club have moved on so much in the last three years. It’s hard to point out how good it’s been because for a long time it’s not been not in the strongest position and we want to try and make it better if we can.
‘When I came in I said I don’t want to be managing a team at the bottom of the league, I want to be managing a team challenging higher up. In the main, we’ve been that. We’ve had our moments.
Moyes raved over Jarrod Bowen’s rise at West Ham to become a regular in England’s set-up
‘I am really, really pleased that I’ve been able to give West Ham something. We have brought in good players. The crowd are seeing tonight for example, Kudus’ performance, everybody is aware of what Paqueta can do.
‘Bowen as well, from coming from lower league clubs in England and is now an England international.
‘If you look at that journey, and I know European football is probably the focus tonight, it’s an awful lot of good things that have happened in the last few years at West Ham.’
The draw for the Europa League quarter and semi-finals will take place on Friday.
