Viktor Gyokeres is expected to leave Sporting CP in the summer, yet with January transfer window looming, there are reports of a desperate club lining up to land the Sweden international.

PSG are reportedly weighing up a possible move to Gyokeres with immediate effect, with the Ligue 1 leaders having struggled to replace Kylian Mbappe’s goals since the France international departed on a free transfer for Real Madrid in the summer.

While former Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim has said that the 26-year-old forward will not leave until the summer, PSG can still sign him if they trigger his €100 million exit clause and persuade him to move.

Fichajes says that the side from the French capital are ready to go “all out” and launch a bid for a player who has attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United. There seems, however, no appetite from the Premier League clubs to make a January move for Gyokeres.

PSG are seeking to take advantage of the situation, with the Parc des Princes club “working on a formal offer” for both the club and the player.

Gyokeres sticking points at PSG

PSG still have sizeable hurdles to clear even if they trigger Gyokeres’ release clause with a €100m bid.

The most obvious problem is persuading the striker to depart Sporting. Even with the Lisbon club struggling to transition following the departure of Amorim to Man Utd, he is settled in Portugal and likely to be patient to wait for a summer move.

Gyokeres is likely to have more options come June and July, with Arsenal and Man Utd both likely to take an interest. Certainly, the pull of Amorim at Old Trafford will be a factor.

But there is also a problem at PSG, too.

Luis Enrique knocked Gyokeres back in the summer, telling sporting director Luis Campos that the Swede would get few minutes, according to FootMercato.

The Spaniard has already shown this season with his refusal to give Randal Kolo Muani game time that he will not be forced into playing a centre-forward, showing that he is not afraid to cause friction in order to get his way.
