Effenberg and Lahm back Kompany to succeed at Bayern

Stefan Effenberg and Philipp Lahm believe Vincent Kompany has what it takes to be a successful Bayern Munich coach.

It seems only a matter of time before Vincent Kompany is announced as the new Bayern Munich coach, with reports suggesting that the Bavarians have a full agreement in place to bring the Burnley manager to Germany.

Speaking on the Sport1 Doppelpass show on Sunday, former Bayern player Stefan Effenberg backed the former Manchester City man to succeed in the job.

“I can imagine that it will work well at Bayern,” Effenberg said, continuing:

“The experience of having played under great coaches as a player is an advantage. He will quickly win over the dressing room because of what he has achieved.”

Kompany is “young, hungry and can really revive Bayern,” Effenberg added, but stressed that “the trust of the management” is crucial if the 38-year-old is to succeed in the job.

Another former Bayern player, Philipp Lahm, also spoke highly of Kompany on the show.

“For me, he has the right profile for a coach. A player who has played at the highest level, who has taken responsibility as a captain and who could certainly learn from Pep Guardiola,” said the former right-back, who won the treble with Bayern in 2013.

“But you always have to prove yourself first, even in the current situation at Bayern,” Lahm warned.
