For the third season in a row, Eintracht Frankfurt are playing in Europe after qualifying for the group stage of the Europa Conference League with a 3-1 aggregate playoff win over Levski Sofia.
However, it’s a new-look Eintracht Frankfurt, with Dino Toppmöller having replaced Oliver Glasner as head coach and key players Evan Ndicka, Daichi Kamada, Jesper Lindstrøm and Randal Kolo Muani all gone.
As a result, Eintracht are in a rebuilding phase, and it shows on the pitch, although the Eagles remain unbeaten at this stage and have picked up an acceptable six points from their first four league games of the season.
On Thursday, Dino Toppmöller’s men will undeniably be heavy favorites at home to Aberdeen, who are second from bottom of the Scottish table after finishing third last season.
“We are aware of the importance of the first group game,” Toppmöller said at his pre-match press conference.
“We want to continue our good start to the season with a home win. We know how difficult the task is, but we are also aware of our role as favorites. We want to live up to it.”
With the exception of Kristijan Jakic, the Eintracht coach has a full squad at his disposal.
“Apart from Jakic, who still has knee problems, all the players are on board. Sebastian Rode has recovered from his illness. He took part in part of the team’s training yesterday and the full session today. If all goes well tomorrow, he will be in the starting eleven,” said Toppmöller.
