Emre Can feels he is being “treated unfairly” and reveals his goal celebration against Heidenheim was aimed at his critics.
When Borussia Dortmund captain Emre Can scored a penalty in Friday’s 4-2 win over Heidenheim, he celebrated the goal in controversial fashion, forming a talking mouth with his right hand and holding his left index finger in front of his mouth.
Ahead of Dortmund’s Champions League opener against Club Brugge on Wednesday, Can explained why he celebrated the goal the way he did.
“I have the feeling that I’m sometimes treated unfairly,” Can told reporters.
“I think I played well at the European Championship. Since I’ve come back, my performances have been okay. For me, it’s simply too easy to pick out someone who supposedly played badly,” Can continued, without elaborating on who exactly he was referring to.
“That was very honest of him,” said Borussia Dortmund coach Nuri Sahin about the words of his captain, who only started on the bench against Heidenheim.
“If that’s the way Emre feels, that’s his right. Emre is who he is. I’m happy that’s the case.”
