James Trafford has been backed to overcome the blow of losing his Burnley place after earning a surprise first England call-up.
The 21-year-old had started every Premier League game, conceding 62 goals, before Vincent Kompany dropped him for Muric ahead of the recent victory over Brentford.
Gareth Southgate still selected Trafford ahead of England’s friendly with Belgium after Sam Johnstone’s withdrawal. And his Under-21 boss Lee Carsley insisted the goalkeeper has the temperament to deal with the setback at club level.
‘He’s very assured, very confident,’ Carsley said. ‘We’ve talked about it. He’s fine, absolutely fine. I think sometimes, because he’s so low maintenance, you can almost go some camps without speaking so much to him.
‘To develop resilience you have to be in these kind of situations. He’ll be back stronger.’

Wigan Athletic’s Sam Tickle is expected to take the gloves for Tuesday’s Under-21 Euro qualifier against Luxembourg.
England have been keeping close tabs on Trafford’s development after the former Manchester City stopper earned a £14million switch to Turf Moor in the wake of a stunning European Championship, keeping six clean sheets and saving a last-minute penalty in the final against Spain.
‘I think James deserves to be up there,’ Carsley added. ‘I think he’s shown, in what he’s done for us especially, that’s he’s an outstanding goalkeeper with real high-class potential.
‘He has the mentality as well to go and fit into that group in terms of starting or being a support act. He’s an all-round very exciting player. He’s playing in the Premier League at such a young age and shown he has all the attributes.’
