Erik ten Hag bans THREE newspapers from asking questions at Man United’s Friday press conference… after labelling critical journalists ‘disrespectful’ following the Red Devils’ FA Cup semi-final win

Erik ten Hag has banned three newspapers from asking questions at his Friday press conference after criticising the ‘disrespectful’ nature of their reporting following Manchester United‘s penalty shootout win over Coventry in the FA Cup.

The Dutchman would not hear questions from The Sun, Manchester Evening News and The Mirror in the build-up to Manchester United’s clash with Burnley on Saturday.

Ten Hag is under scrutiny ahead of the summer with new part owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS weighing up whether to sack the Red Devils boss after another disappointing campaign at Old Trafford. 

United edged past Championship club Coventry to reach the FA Cup final last weekend, squandering a 3-0 lead before eventually making it through on penalties at Wembley.

Coventry thought they had won it in the dying stages of extra time before their late goal was disallowed for a marginal offside in the build-up.

Ten Hag, whose side were heavily criticised by pundits and fans after the game, came out fighting on Tuesday ahead of the Red Devils’ 4-2 win over Sheffield United, labelling the reaction to his side’s scare a Wembley ’embarrassing’ and ‘a disgrace’

According to The Telegraph on Thursday, Ten Hag felt some of the criticism and reporting of Sunday’s display, plus his future as United boss, was disrespectful. His furious reaction also included mid-match social media posts by journalists.

For example, MEN’s United reporter Samuel Luckhurst posted on social media platform X during extra-time at Wembley on Sunday: ‘Ten Hag cannot survive this. He has to go ASAP. #mufc.’

The various journalists who had upset the Dutchman were allowed into his post-match press conference after Wednesday’s win over Sheffield United but were refused the opportunity to quiz Ten Hag.

Still furious at the lack of respect shown towards him and his team, Ten Hag continued to ban the journalists – and their respective publications – from posing questions at Friday’s press conference.

United sit sixth in the Premier League ahead of Saturday’s clash with Burnley, seven points behind Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham above them.

Former England and Newcastle star Alan Shearer suggested after the Wembley win over Coventry that INEOS had ‘already made a decision’ on Ten Hag and were ready to sack him at the end of the season.
