Arsenal and Real Madrid are both keeping close tabs on Valencia’s highly rated centre-back Yarek Gasiorowski, with the Spain U19 international attracting widespread attention across Europe.
Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his defensive options at Arsenal, particularly with potential departures looming in the next few transfer windows. Players like Kieran Tierney, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jakob Kiwior could be on their way out, and Arteta has identified Gasiorowski as a prime candidate to fill the void.
Standing at an imposing 6ft 3in, Gasiorowski fits the profile of a modern Arsenal defender – dominant, elegant and technically adept. Known for his composure, intelligent positioning and ability to break up opposition attacks, the Valencia starlet brings a physical yet refined presence to the backline. He’s also a long-throw specialist, adding another string to his bow.
His performances for Spain’s U19 side have only solidified his reputation. Gasiorowski has earned 28 caps at that level, contributing eight goals – including a stunning hat-trick against Moldova. He was a key figure in Spain’s triumph at the UEFA European U19 Championship in 2024, where he was named in the tournament’s Best XI.
The 20-year-old made his senior debut for Valencia during the 2023/2024 La Liga season, showcasing his readiness for the highest level of competition. His standout performances have not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid also monitoring his development closely as they look to reinforce their defence.
Committed to Valencia
Despite the growing interest, Valencia have moved swiftly to secure Gasiorowski’s future. The young defender recently extended his contract until 2027, if indeed they choose to trigger the two-year option written into his deal, which will come into effect once he plays 20 senior matches, each with at least 45 minutes of game time. As part of this extension, his release clause has been set at €60 million, reflecting his rising status within the club.
Arsenal and Madrid aren’t the only sides interested. Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid have also joined the race for the young defender. With Gasiorowski firmly established as one of Spain’s brightest defensive talents, the competition for his signature will be fierce.
Arsenal will hope their proactive approach and Arteta’s reputation for developing young talent can help lure Gasiorowski to North London. But with Real Madrid’s pedigree and Valencia’s reluctance to part with their rising star, this transfer battle is only just beginning.
